Skills Lab

An-Najah national university skills lab is dedicated to advancing health care provider education at all clinical levels.

Our goal is :  to achieve realistic, accurate, real-time medical simulation using state-of-the art technology. Computer-generated scenarios, simulating acute medical conditions in life like mannequins/trainers, allow participants to develop skill sets in a safe, controlled environment simulating the clinical setting.

Up till now skills lab are 4 halls found in the old campus containing:  beds and screens that allow students to practice fundamental examination skills between them. These halls are used for 3rd and 4th year medical students. In the 3rd year, it is used for art of medicine course. Each group of students will have 10 days of practicing in essential examination skills including vital signs, abdominal and cardiovascular examination, etc.

For the 4th year students, each group will have 2 weeks of learning and practice in skills lab. One week is for endocrinology and the other week for respiratory.

In the upcoming months, we are looking to use these labs in which one-to-one and small-group instruction utilizing mannequins is conducted by facilitators trained in the use of computer driven simulation adjuncts. Attention is focused on maintaining a non-threatening learning environment, providing adequate mechanisms for positive feedback and developing a supportive student-facilitator relationship.
