The course explores the basic principles and concepts of health education. It focuses on the methods used for healthy or sick individuals and/or group(s) in the community or in health care institutions. The course is organized around the elements of the teaching learning process. Emphasis will be on assessment of learning needs, instructional objectives, teaching modalities, educational resources, and evaluation of the teaching/learning process. Theories and/or models that explain and influence health behavior will be explored. Opportunity for microteaching will also be arranged. The course focuses on the methods used in counseling of healthy individuals of all ages and patients with problems interfering with their normal daily lives. Theories of communication and group processes are studied. The course also centers on communication approaches and techniques relevant to the provision of nursing care to individuals and groups. In order to explain man’s interaction with the environment, social, psychology theories focusing on social communication, social networks, roles, social influences and attitude changes are studied. Theories concerning learning, giving information and evaluation are also studied.
