While utilizing the concept-based learning pedagogy, this course will provide students with opportunities to demonstrate the performance & responsibilities required for safe practice. The course allows the students to develop their professional interactions, therapeutic relationships and nursing care practices associate with caring for adult patients within medical or surgical specialized settings. This will extend practice to accommodate the complexity of diverse practice settings. Students will propose and participate in the care of patients based on an understanding of the underlying disease pathology, selected nursing concepts, the expected medical and pharmacological treatment, and the scope of independent and collaborative nursing practice.
Students will also develop abilities introduced in prior skill lab and to apply knowledge learnt from past or concurrent theoretical courses for patients and families. The course provides facilitated clinical placement opportunities for students to demonstrate competency as assessed by the Clinical Performance Evaluation Tool which partially fulfils requirements of the National Standards for the RN.
