On Saturday, October 29th, 2016, under the patronage of the Kuwaiti Minister of Information and Minister of State for Youth Affairs Sheikh Salman Al-Sabah, the Arab Media Forum (AMF) in cooperation with the Arab Planning Institute as well as other bodies honored the winners of the Voluntary, Humanitarian Youth Initiative Award.

The award aims at evaluating youth initiatives for voluntary and humanitarian action around the Arab World. The organizing committee has received more than 600 youth initiatives from different Arab countries that have been sorted out and submitted to an arbitration panel. Up to 40 initiatives were reviewed during the fair and An-Najah's team, “In Arabic-Supporting Science with Language” ranked 8th place in the competition.

The initiative aspires to enrich Arabic content on the web, Wikipedia in particular, through translating scientific articles to Arabic. The Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences at An-Najah under the supervision of Dr. Abdulsalam Khayyat joined the competition where 400 students translated 500 articles.

Their work is currently under scientific and linguistic auditing and will be published soon on Wikipedia.

Notes:

The initiative included translators and editing students from participating universities from Jordan, Syria, Kuwait and others.
