An-Najah Holds a Training Day on First Aid

On Saturday, March 12th, 2016, the Department of Nursing and Midwifery and the American Corner Nablus of the International Office at An-Najah in cooperation with the Palestine Red Crescent Society (PRCS) held a training day on first aid at the Korean Palestinian IT Institute of Excellence in the New Campus.

The training day aimed at introducing An-Najah students to basics of the cardiopulmonary resuscitation *(CPR) for adults and how to use the implantable cardioverter defibrillator *(ICD).

An-Najah professors offered practical training to participating students as part of the recommendations offered by the *American Heart Association for the year 2015.

Mr. Mahmoud Al-Karmi, Member at the PRCS discussed with the students types of injuries and fractures and how to transfer patients to the hospital.

Notes:

  • The training day was attended by 80 students from various departments of the university.
  • The training day was also attended by Dr. Ayda Al-Qaisi, Head of the Nursing and Midwifery Department; Ms Shurooq Qadous; Ms Samah Ishtayeh; Mr. Nizar Saeed; Mr. Omar Mahmoud; Dr. Iman Al-Shaweesh; Mr. Mohammad Al-Hayek and Ms Aseel Al-Sayed from An-Najah.
  • *CPR is a lifesaving technique useful in many emergencies, including heart attack or near drowning, in which someone's breathing or heartbeat has stopped.
  • *ICD is a small device that's placed in the chest or abdomen. Doctors use the device to help treat irregular heartbeats called arrhythmias.
  • *The American Heart Association is a non-profit organization in the United States that fosters appropriate cardiac care in an effort to reduce disability and deaths caused by cardiovascular disease and stroke.
