On Wednesday, April 12th, 2017, the Department of Nursing and Midwifery at An-Najah with the support of Jerusalem Pharmaceuticals Company organized the Organ Transplantation in Palestine Conference “Donate Life” on the occasion of the International Nurses Day and the International Day of the Midwife at the Zafer Al-Masri Auditorium in the Old Campus.
The conference shed light on issues related to organs donation and transplantation in Palestine, organs donation and transplantation from an Islamic point of view, Palestinian citizens’ opinion on organ donation and life after an organ transplant.
In her opening speech, Dr. Aida Qaisi, Head of the Department of Nursing and Midwifery stressed the importance of the conference themes and mentioned that the department always aspires to offer its students the best services and facilities.
Professor Maher Natsheh, Acting President of An-Najah said that the university pays great attention to the development of medical fields especially organs transplantation and organs donation.
In turn, Dr. Imad Dweikat, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences stressed the importance of organs transplantation and donation in saving people’s lives and commended the department’s staff efforts to contribute to the conference success.
Mrs. Najat Dweikat, Director General of the General Administration for Nursing at the Ministry of Health referred to the ministry’s efforts to develop nursing and midwifery professions and enhance the quality of higher education.
Mr. Sulaiman Turkuman, Head of the Palestinian Nursing and Midwifery Association talked about the Palestinian achievements in health field despite the difficult political and economic situations.
Dr. Abdullah Dweikat from the Nursing Department at An-Najah National University Hospital said that the hospital offers training for the nurses on organs transplantation, and it aims at raising people’s awareness on organs donation.
Mr. Jihad Akrouk from Jerusalem Pharmaceuticals Company, sponsor of the event, mentioned that the company aims at establishing partnership with the local community’s institutions and offers support to higher education institutions and research centres. He added that the company pays special attention to people with disabilities as well.

The conference was attended by An-Najah’s vice presidents and assistants, representatives of a number of Palestinian health institution and a large group of An-Najah’s medicine students.
The conference activities included honoring the winner of the Best Nurse Award which went to Nurse Ameera Hureizat.
