THE AWARNESS OF USING EYE CONTACT LENSES AMONG MEDICAL STUDENTS IN AL NAJAH NATIONAL UNEVERSITY

Abstract

Objectives 

The main objective of this study was to evaluate the extent of knowledge of the medical students at A Najah National University towards the proper practices related to contact lens wear, care as well as to assess the knowledge about the possible complications and microbial contaminants associated with contact lens wear.

Methods

This study is a cross sectional study. A 400 students were enrolled in this study , The study was carried out during the time period between December 2019 and February 2020.The study was carried out using a face-face structured questionnaire. And consisted of 4 sections:

1.the socio demographic characteristics of the participants.

2.The measurement  use of the contact lens among the medical students .

3.The Knowledge and practice towards hygiene and care of contact lens wear

4. the awareness toward the complications that may be contact lens lead to.

Result

The majority of contact lens wearer were females by a percent of ( 58.6%) and the majority used the contact lens for medical purposes, and the knowledge of using and cleaning contact lenses in our university was high. However, we found that there is a lack of information even for the educated students and the seniors in eye complications and diseases that caused by the eye contact lenses

Conclusion

There is a need for more information about the eye complications that related to the use of contact lenses, which should be provided in courses and even added to the courses in the program
