A group of students from An-Najah's Department of Optometry at the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences recently visited the Khaled Bakir for Young Leadership Foundation in Ramallah.
The visit aimed to perform a comprehensive eye exam to evaluate a group of children's eyes, and vision health from ages 3 to 5. The comprehensive eye exam included a battery of tests including the Visual Acuity, Retinoscopy, Refraction, Eye Focusing, Eye Health, and Tonometry.
In Palestine, there is no implemented project that performs vision screening for preschoolers (3-5 years old). Therefore, the University's Department of Optometry developed a project that fills this gap by arranging regular visits to kindergartens. The project aims to perform vision screening for preschool children.
It is worth mentioning that the early childhood eye exams are essential to ensure normal visual development and confirm there are no vision problems that might affect academic performance when a child reaches school age.
