Abstract

We investigate the effect of Ecballium elaterium on mice on different background and different duration, we apply Ecballium elaterium for one and two week, and we observed that the extract lower the blood glucose level in the mice.

Ecballium elaterium fruit juice has been reported as being capable of decreasing bilirubinemia in animals with jaundice, It’s also used in the treatment of epilepsy and malaria in the Iranian folk medicine, but it has not a complete study about lowering blood glucose.

In our project we prepared the Ecballium elaterium extract by freeze drier, then we injected the mice intraperitoneal with Ecballium elaterium, and we measured the Intraperitoneal Glucose tolerance test (IPGTT). So we conclude that the effect of EE has a variation between different genetic background, and EE shows the effect on male mice only, no effect on female mice.
