Abstract:

Background: Thirteen million infants are born before 37 completed weeks of gestation. Preterm infant’s loss of time to grow in their mother’s womb leads to structural and physiological immaturity. Around of 70% neonatal deaths occur in preterm infants . So preterm infants need additional energy to stay warm, as support for feeding, to be free from infection, and to maintain the stable physiological parameters . There’s various measures that are used to stabilize the preterm infants like incubators, nesting, and Kangaroo Mother Care . Kangaroo Mother Care (KMC) is defined as a method of holding a small neonate in skin-to skin contact prone and upright on the maternal chest.

Aim: To assess the effectiveness of Kangaroo Mother Care on vital of physiological parameters (Pulse,Respirtory,Tempreture) among preterm infants , before and after KMC in Neonatal intensive care unit Hospital in Nablus , Rafidia Governmental Hospital , Specialized Arab Hospital , and Women Union Hospital .

Research design: A quantitative research, quasi experimental trial.

Setting of Study: Neonatal intensive care unit Hospital in Nablus, Rafidia Governmental Hospital, Specialized Arab Hospital, and Women Union Hospital.

Sample Size: The sample contained (30) preterm infant chosen purposive (non-probability sample that is selected based on characteristics of a population and the objective of the study).

Method: A Quasi experimental trial, pre and post-test research design was conducted to assess the effectiveness of Kangaroo Mother Care on level of physiological parameters in thirty preterm infants assigned for two group(n= 15 in each) group one, a kangaroo group, group two, a control group achieved inclusion and exclusion criteria in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). Pre-intervention with the participant used to collect data, and to instruct them about the study details (include discussion of vital physiological parameters (pulse, respiration, and temperature), The time consumed with any preterm infant and their mother for application of kangaroo was 2-3 hours, and the average number of preterm infants and their mothers who interviewed and observed per week was2-4for both study and control.

Result: Through assessing the effect of kangaroo mother care on vital physiological parameters pulse, respiration, and temperature of preterm researcher found that there are all parameters show significant differences between pre and post kangaroo mother care application concerning heart rate, respiratory rate, and temperature.

Conclusion: Kangaroo mother care was effectively and positively promoted preterm infants to normal physiological stability, and behavioral organization; where decreasing the percentage of preterm infants who was crying before applying KMC and enhanced Psychological outcomes; where the positive mother-infant attachment was increase after applying of KMC than those cared by the conventional care.
