Abstract :
Introduction: All student nurses feel the theory-clinical gap. The theory-clinical gap is a big issue in nursing education, which can affect on nursing outcomes “services” which will lead to decrease the quality on nursing services that is provided to clients in health organizations.
Aims: The main goal of this study is to assess if there a theory practice gap in the north of the west bank among nursing student in four nursing faculties, and to detect the factors affecting the gap.
Method: Descriptive non-experimental quantitative study, a cross-sectional design, was conducted with a questionnaire on the 3rd and 4th nursing students , the sample size 369 subject with 60.2% (226) subjective response rate in four nursing faculties (an Najah national university [n=157], al-Alquds university[n=83], Ibn Sina faculty for health science[n=86], and Ber Zait university[n=43]).
Results: After analyzing the data on SPSS, all the participants of this study feels the gap and the most factors affecting the gap was limitations of nurses in the hospital to carry out nursing procedures without attention to what has been studied in a scientific theory courses with an affection percentage 99.6 % and the way for overcome this gap was enable the student to access to hospital departments according to the theoretical course taught to get the proper training with a percentage 99.7%. Comparing with other demographic data, the e statistical analysis find that there is a statistical significance between the GPA and gap witha [p=.001] .Page 5 of 60
Conclusion: All the study participants feel the theory-practice gap in nursing profession exactly like other worldwide studies which makes it a global issue in nursing
