Abstract :

This study was undertaken to evaluate the effect of Jute soup on the oral bioavailability of ciprofloxacin tablet in rabbits.

A single dose of 125 mg ciprofloxacin tablet was administered in a fasted state or with jute soup. Plasma ciprofloxacin concentrations were measured by high-performance liquid chromatography.

The results demonstrated a profound effect of jute soup on the bioavailability of ciprofloxacin. The geometric mean C max and AUC 0–∞ values of ciprofloxacin were significantly lower under fed compared to fasted states. Administration of ciprofloxacin with jute soup was associated with a delay in the time to reach peak concentration Tmaxby about half hour.

Bioavailability was unaltered by food
