The Laboratory of Physiology in the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences serves students of Medicine and Pharmacy in their second year. It aims through its practical course material to strengthen the relationship between theory and applied materials in Physiology. In order to achieve that, this laboratory has provided many of the instruments and tools that enrich the learning process and increase the capabilities of students to conduct practical physiological experiments. Blood pressure manometer, electrocardiogram, spirometry, glucometer and centrifuge are some of these tools and instruments.
At the end of this laboratory course, the students will be able to do many of the necessary practical experiments. Examples include:
- Blood pressure measurement in different states of rest and exercise.
- Doing different tests in spirometry
- To do ECG and be able to understand and interpret it.
- Conduct various blood tests, such as bleeding time, hematocrit, and blood smear.
- Perform glucose tolerance test and be able to check for blood sugar.
- Training students to carry out parts of the nervous system clinical examination, and be able to understand their underlying physiology.
Equipments:
- Sphygmomanometer: Is a mercurial device used to measure blood pressure
- ECG (Electrocardiograph ECG): It records the electrical planning of the heart and the electrical activity of the heart, in addition to the calculation of the heartbeat.
- Glucose Meter: Is a medical device for the approximate examination of blood glucose·
- Complete Blood Count CBC: Is a routine examination to take a complete picture of blood, which helps in the diagnosis of many diseases, especially blood diseases
- Capillary Centrifuge (Capillary Centrifuge): A device to separate blood components when placed in special capillary tubes
- Centrifuge: A device to separate particles from a solution according to their size, shape, density, viscosity of medium velocity and dizziness in a solution, is used to separate the blood components in addition to separating the deposits in the urine
- MicroscopesA device to enlarge the small objects that can not be seen with the naked eye or to show the precise details of things in order to discover their composition and study, and is used to see the blood slides in addition to urine test strips.
