Abstract
Many bioactive ingredients are derived from natural sources such as plants, animals, or minerals. Medicinal plants are the richest source for bioactive compounds and there is an increasing need for substances with antiviral, antibacterial, anticancer, antiprotozoal , and antifungal activity. Our plant is Phlomis brachyodn a native Palestinian plant will be exhaustively extracted by a method developed by the expert team Prof.Mahmoud Abu-hadid and Dr.Nidal Jaradat while we used 50% ethanol in triple distilled water plus 50ml n-hexane as solvent, these solvent will enable us to extract hydrophilic and hydrophobic compound. We used 25 grams of dried plant then soak the plant in the solvent with shaking for 72 hours at room temperature. After filtration separate the organic phase from the aqueous phase and put the aqueous extract in the rotary evaporator at room temperature then dry it by the lyophilizer (freeze drier). The organic extract was air dried under the hood. The yield of organic extract was (0.04 g) 0.16% and the aqueous extract was (5g) 20%, then we dissolved the organic extract in 1% dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) the aqueous was dissolved in phosphate buffer saline. Both extracts were kept in the refrigerator till they will be used for the biological activity tests.
