Abstract :
Introduction : Urinary tract infections affect to outcome of pregnancy. And Pregnancy causes numerous changes in the woman’s body. Hormonal and mechanical changes increase the risk of urinary stasis and vesicoureteral reflux. These changes, along with an already short urethra (approximately 3-4 cm in females) and difficulty with hygiene due to a distended pregnant belly, increase the frequency of urinary tract infections (UTIs) in pregnant women. Indeed, UTIs are among the most common bacterial infections during pregnancy and cause abortion.
This cross sectional quantitative study aimed tofind out the risk factor of abortion , UTI and if there is any association between them.Convenient sampling method was used and 50 pregnant women admitted for abortion at the 4 governmental hospitals and ….. in addition to UNRWA hospital. Tolkrm ,Jenin,
The main findings were ; 22% of participants have UTI, 64% of participants experienced missed abortion , 10% were with UTI , and 18% experience threatened abortion 8% have UTI with no significant differences between the occurrence of UTI with different types of abortion.
Conclusions: it was found there was no relationship between UTI and types of abortion .
Recommendation : Health education about personal hygiene should be emphasized by the antenatal care physician to all pregnant female, specifically those of low socio-economic level, and urine culture must be done at the first antenatal visit, and repeated cultures should be obtained at different trimesters
